Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing, Mich., is offering area residents a free application that provides continuous health news updates, including the latest developments involving the H1N1 flu virus.

The hospital created the “Ingham Health Bug” using ActiveAccess technology from BIA/Kelsey, Chantilly, Va. Once users install the technology on their computer, it sits as an icon on their desktop until activated by the user or the hospital. For breaking news, the hospital can send a text crawl or flashing alert that will appear along the bottom of the computer screen.

In addition to news about the flu outbreak, the service will provide updates on new federal health information, health education programs and other breaking medical news.

More information is available at activeaccess.com/healthcare.asp.
