EDI Firm Offers More Provider Data

Claims clearinghouse Availity LLC, Jacksonville, Fla., has increased its use of the provider database services of Health Market Science Inc., King of Prussia, Pa.

Availity is jointly owned by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Humana Inc. and Health Care Services Corp., which operates Blues plans in Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

For two years, the clearinghouse has offered providers in Florida and Texas, via its provider Web portal, the HMS Provider Master File database that lists contact information, identification numbers, specialty, education, ethnicity and other information on billable providers and provider organization those states.

Now, Availity will offer access to reference data on more than 4.5 million individual providers and 1 million provider organizations across the nation in the database. The database enables a provider creating a claim to click on an attending or billable physician’s name so that pertinent data automatically populates the claim.

The database also is used to ease verification and input of data on new billable providers in a claims management system or new prescribers in a pharmacy information system.
