HealthFusion, a Solana Beach, Calif.-based company known for its health care transactions clearinghouse, is introducing practice management software. The company also plans to acquire an electronic health records vendor in the first quarter of 2009, says Sol Lizerbram, M.D., chairman.

The new practice management system uses the application service provider computing model. Practices will pay $99 per month per physician for the core system. That fee includes submitting up to 400 claims to certain commercial insurers through the clearinghouse, Lizerbram said in an interview at the Medical Group Management Association conference in San Diego.

The practice management software automatically triggers commercial insurance eligibility checks for patients 72 hours before their visits, without incurring a fee, Lizerbram added. Practice management customers can add other transactions for an extra charge.
