CMS Cancels ICD-10 Testing Slated for July

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has canceled ICD-10 testing scheduled for late July.

In a policy reversal, CMS had previously announced in February that it would offer "end-to-end" ICD-10 testing for a "small sample group of providers" in late July, despite previously declaring that it would not conduct any external testing for providers. However, pressured by industry groups calling for CMS to reconsider its position, the agency capitulated. But, now those plans have been shelved until next year.

“CMS planned to conduct ICD-10 testing during the week of July 21 through 25, 2014, to give a sample group of providers the opportunity to participate in end-to-end testing with Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) and the Common Electronic Data Interchange (CEDI) contractor,” according to a CMS statement issued May 2. “The July testing has been canceled due to the ICD-10 implementation delay. Additional opportunities for end-to-end testing will be available in 2015.”

Earlier this year, CMS offered ICD-10 acknowledgement testing to allow providers, billing companies, and clearinghouses the opportunity to determine whether CMS will be able to accept their claims with ICD-10 codes.
