Podesta Is New Fletcher Allen CIO

Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., has named Charles Podesta as CIO, effective June 2. He will oversee the delivery system’s $57.2 million implementation of electronic health records systems from Epic Systems Corp., Verona, Wis.

Podesta has served for the past three years as senior vice president and CIO of six-hospital Caritas Christi Health Care in Boston. He previously was CIO at Berkshire Health System in Pittsfield, Mass., and director of corporate information systems and interim CIO at Baystate Health Systems in Springfield, Mass.

The top I.T. position at Fletcher Allen has been vacant since 2006, with Frank Harris, vice president of information services, and COO Angie Marnao overseeing the I.T. operations.

The delivery system’s hospital, licensed for 562 beds, will install the Epic information systems, as will more than 30 other Fletcher Allen facilities and its 470-member faculty practice. Fletcher Allen also will offer an EHR to about 200 independent community physicians. More information is available at fahc.org.
