Opus Nabs Inpatient Certification

Opus Healthcare Solutions has received certification of its inpatient electronic health records system under 2008 criteria of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology. The certified application is OpusClinicalSuite Version 2.3.

The Austin, Texas-based vendor is only the second to have a certified product under 2008 inpatient criteria. Epic Systems Corp.'s EpicCare Inpatient Clinical System, Spring 2008 release, was certified last November. The majority of inpatient vendors were certified under 2007 criteria and appear to be waiting for subsequent criteria addressing meaningful use requirements before going through the process again, according to a CCHIT spokesperson.

The Web-based OpusClinicalSuite provides a single point of access for clinicians to enter and retrieve patient data from the bedside or remote locations, according to the vendor.

More information is available at opushealthcare.com and cchit.org.

A major success factor for accountable care organizations will be linking caregivers across the spectrum of care delivery. If history is any indication, that's going to be an industrywide struggle.
