Aetna Creates, Fills CTO Position

Health insurer Aetna Inc. has named Michael Mathias as vice president and chief technology officer.

The CTO position is new. Mathias, who joined Aetna as a systems engineering manager in 1993, will report to CIO Meg McCarthy.

Mathias most recently served as head of technology architecture and strategy in 2006 and head of enterprise architecture in 2007. As CTO, he is responsible for aligning Aetna’s vision for technology with its business strategies. He also is responsible for all aspects of developing and implementing technology initiatives.
