Federal Advisory Committees to Meet

HDM Breaking News, November 30, 2009

The HIT Policy Committee and HIT Standards Committee will meet in mid-December to get updates and reports from various workgroups.

The committees, comprising industry stakeholders to advise the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, are authorized under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The HIT Policy Committee will meet on Dec. 15 in Washington. It will hear reports from workgroups, including those covering meaningful use of electronic health records and the nationwide health information network. The NHIN workgroup also will meet on Dec. 16 to take testimony from stakeholder organizations.

The HIT Standards Committee will meet in Washington on Dec. 18. Both committee meetings can be accessed live at http://healthit.hhs.gov. More information is available in a notice published Nov. 30 in the Federal Register, at gpoaccess.gov/fr/index.html.

ONC and the Department of Health and Human Services continue to expect in late December to issue a series of proposed rules to implement Medicare/Medicaid incentive programs, an initial set of data standards for health information exchange, implementation specifications, certification programs and certification criteria, including a definition for meaningful use of electronic health records.
