AMDIS Names Award Winners

The Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems has named the winners of its 2009 awards in recognition of excellence in applied medical informatics.

Winners of the awards from the Lake Almanor, Calif.-based association, which has 1,800 physician members, were honored for using I.T. to improve patient care, support more effective medical practice, improve work flow and contain health care costs. The winners are:

* Michael Dominguez, M.D., medical informatics officer, University Health System, San Antonio, Texas;
* Fallon Clinic, Worcester, Mass.;
* Cynthia Herzog, M.D., medical director of informatics, MemorialCare Medical Centers, Orange County, Calif.;
* Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, Calif.;
* Steve Margolis, M.D., CMIO, Orlando Regional Healthcare;
* Jon Morris, M.D., medical informatics officer, Wellstar Health Systems, Marietta Ga.;
* Matt Sprunger, M.D., CMIO, Dupont Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.; and
* UPMC Interoperability Team, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
