Catholic Health East, a large provider organization headquartered in Newtown Square, Pa., has named SoftMed Systems Inc. as its single-source vendor for medical records administration systems. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Catholic Health East operates 32 hospitals, 42 skilled nursing facilities, 21 residential facilities, three behavioral health facilities and numerous ambulatory and community-based health services. The integrated delivery system has more than 14,000 beds. Many of its facilities already use some SoftMed products.

Silver Spring, Md.-based SoftMed sells a variety of products to automate information disclosure tracking, chart completion and tracking, charge capture, and transcription functions. The contract with Catholic Health East is at least the fourth major provider organization contract for SoftMed in about 18 months. Previously, Banner Health System, Phoenix; Catholic Healthcare Partners, Cincinnati; and Tenet Healthcare Corp., Santa Barbara, Calif., named SoftMed a preferred vendor. Those provider organizations total nearly 180 hospitals.
