The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation will offer a total of $200,000 to software developers who create gaming applications that generate useful data to improve health status.

“In playing the developed game applications, participants will be competing or collaborating to improve personal health while simultaneously contributing to the overarching goal of maximizing their community’s health,” according to an explanation.

The challenge has two phases, with developer teams submitting their ideas and the top five teams each receiving $5,000. These five teams will participate in the second phase of creating working game applications. The winning team will receive $100,000 and will present the application during the Fall Health 2.0 Conference in September 2013. The second place team will get $50,000 with third place taking home $25,000.
