HCIA-Sachs, Evanston, Ill., and HBS International, Bellevue, Wash., have merged to form a large health data analysis firm. The companies term the alliance a true merger, with previous owners of both companies owning the new firm, which is named Solucient and headquartered in Evanston. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. HCIA-Sachs CEO Robert Brown is CEO of Solucient. HBSI President and CEO Gregg Bennett is president of the new company and a board member. HCIA-Sachs, formed late last year when Sachs Group acquired HCIA Inc. of Baltimore, offers a range of market share and relationship management data benchmarking services. It also analyzes trends, such as the percentage of a hospital's emergency patients that could be treated elsewhere and the financial effect of the Balanced Budget Act. HBSI provides clinical, financial and patient satisfaction outcomes analysis to more than 900 clients.
