Pharmacy benefit management firm Express Scripts Inc. has acquired ConnectYourCare LLC, which sells software to enable consumers, employers, insurers and banks to manage health savings accounts and consumer-directed health plans.

St. Louis-based Express Scripts bought ConnectYourCare from Washington-based Revolution Health, which two years ago acquired controlling interest in the company. ConnectYourCare’s services were one of many services from Revolution Health when it launched a “preview” version of its consumer health portal in January 2007 and formally launched the site in April.

ConnectYourCare’s Web portal solution enables electronic enrollment in an HSA, as well as account management; medical reference and comparison-shopping information; and a glossary of insurance terms to help consumers make health care choices.

Kansas City, Mo.-based UMB Healthcare Services this year aligned with ConnectYourCare to offer management content with banking services, including a health care payment card. Single-sign-on software enables consumers to link their health care accounts to their investment accounts at UMB.

A major success factor for accountable care organizations will be linking caregivers across the spectrum of care delivery. If history is any indication, that's going to be an industrywide struggle.
