Think the vendor booths at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Conference & Exhibition have gotten awfully big? Wait until the 2007 conference.
Next year's HIMSS event may have fewer vendor exhibitors than the 875 that showed up for the 2006 show in San Diego. But by mid-June, more vendors had committed to exhibit than during the same period a year ago, and some vendors are buying much more space, HIMSS officials say.
The 545 vendors registered for the 2007 conference in New Orleans so far already have bought 86% of exhibit space, compared with 474 vendors by the same time last year grabbing 81%. But the exhibit floor in New Orleans has 240,000 more square feet than San Diego.
Consequently, several major vendors will increase their already expansive exhibit space by more than 50% in 2007. More than 20 other exhibitors have boosted their space by 200%. Still, the much larger exhibit floor will give new exhibitors more options for booth space.
Officials at Chicago-based HIMSS expect about 800 vendors in New Orleans, with total attendance of nearly 25,000. Attendance in San Diego totaled 24,870. More information is available at himss.org.
