The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology in late July will start accepting nominations for new members of its board. Also that month, the commission will seek public comment on updates to its certification criteria for ambulatory electronic medical records software, and initial work to certify inpatient records applications.
The industry-created commission, now working under a federal contract, is governed by a 19-member board of commissioners who serve two-year staggered terms. The commission on July 25 will post a call for nominations on its Web site and provide details on the available board positions and the industry stakeholders the positions are intended to represent. The commission expects to accept nominations for 30 days and will select new board members in September.
The commission during the week of July 17 will post on its Web site updates to ambulatory EMR certification criteria and its initial assessment of the inpatient EMR environment, accepting comment for 30 days. A town call, or teleconference, is scheduled for July 24 to discuss the materials and explain how to submit comments.
Further, the commission will hold a separate town call on July 24 for physicians who have heard about electronic records certification programs and wish to learn more.
Information on these various commission activities will be posted at cchit.org.
