The Healthcare Administrative Simplification Coalition has endorsed efforts to implement patient ID card standards.

The coalition of more than 20 industry stakeholders is supporting an initiative of the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange to develop guidelines for implementing ID card standards developed by the American National Standards Institute.

The Healthcare Administrative Simplification Coalition was formed by the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Health Information Management Association and Medical Group Management Association. The group previously endorsed the Healthcare Financial Management Association-initiated Patient Friendly Billing project; and CAQH's online physician credentialing service and new effort to standardize processes for verifying patient insurance coverage. CAQH is a payer consortium previously known as the Coalition for Affordable Quality Healthcare.

More information on the Healthcare Administrative Simplification Coalition is available by calling Jennifer Miller at MGMA at 202-293-3450.
