Epocrates Inc. has introduced a new symptom assessment tool to aid in making diagnoses. The San Mateo, Calif.-based vendor of applications for mobile computing devices developed the tool with the Laboratory of Computer Science at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
The Epocrates SxDx decision support tool enables clinicians to enter at the point of care symptoms, examination findings, laboratory results and specific patient demographics into a mobile computing device.
The software then generates a list of plausible diagnoses using such factors as frequency of findings in a particular disease, prevalence of the findings in the general population and frequency of disease occurrence, according to the vendor.
