MedAssets Inc., a group purchasing organization, has acquired Avega Health Systems, a vendor of financial management software for acute care hospitals. Acquisition terms were not disclosed.

The deal is the latest for Alpharetta, Ga.-based MedAssets, which is looking to expand beyond its core purchasing services. The company in July acquired Med-Data Management Inc., which sells revenue cycle management software, such as chargemaster and claims denial management applications.

El Segundo, Calif.-based Avega's portfolio includes financial reporting, budgeting, long-range planning, capital budgeting and productivity reporting software modules. The company won the 2005 "Best in KLAS" award for business decision support software from vendor research firm KLAS Enterprises, Orem, Utah. The awards are based of measures of customer satisfaction.
