The National Library of Medicine has released a draft rules-based mapping from the SNOMED CT clinical terminology to ICD-9-CM codes.

The draft map consists of approximately 5,000 mappings of SNOMED CT terms. The goal is to ease claims processing by including terms in claims that justify medical necessity.

The National Library of Medicine and the SNOMED Terminology Solutions division of the College of American Pathologists will accept user feedback on the draft map from Dec. 1 through Feb. 1. To download the map for evaluation, click here.
