The National Institutes of Health will make available nearly $200 million in grants for large-scale biomedical, public health and health care delivery research.

The grants are part of the new NIH Research and Research Infrastructure Grand Opportunities program. They will support projects "that accelerate critical breakthroughs, early and applied research on cutting edge technologies, and new approaches to improve the synergy and interactions among multi and interdisciplinary research teams," according to an NIH announcement.

Information technology initiatives, such as easier sharing of radiological images across health care institutions, are among the priorities for which funds are available. Another priority is validation of biomarkers that indicate the risk of disease or disease progression.

The funds come from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. For more information, click here.
