ONC Proposes 2015 Edition of EHR Technology Certification Criteria

A proposal for the 2015 Edition of electronic health records technology certification criteria was published in the Federal Register Feb. 26 by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT. Speaking at an HIMSS14 panel session, ONC's Federal Policy Division Director Steve Posnack said it's been about two years since any proposed rulemaking for EHR technology certification criteria. But the 2015 Edition signals a new approach. Going forward, ONC intends to update certification criteria editions every 12 to 18 months in order to provide smaller, more incremental regulatory changes and policy proposals.
