Missouri Health Connection and Illinois Health Information Exchange, both state-designated HIEs, have signed a data sharing agreement. The states share a long border and many patients in southern Illinois are referred to Missouri hospitals, so the agreement will enable physicians in both states to have complete information about their patients. Missouri Health Connection presently serves 62 hospitals, 350 clinics and 7,000 physicians, covering about 45 percent of inpatient care in the state. The Illinois exchange serves more than 2,000 providers at 450 hospitals, physician practices and community health centers.
