17 Senators Ask HHS to Extend Stage 2 Meaningful Use
Seventeen Republican U.S. Senators have sent a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius making a compelling argument for implementing a one-year extension to Stage 2 of the electronic health records meaningful use program. The letter comes in response to the wake of multiple pleas from health care member organizations-including the Medical Group Management Association, the American Medical Association, and the College of Health Information Management Executives-for an extension in the second phase of the multi-year EHR incentive program. Providers who fail to keep up with meaningful use requirements face permanent penalties in their subsequent Medicare reimbursement.
