Why Trade Press Social Media is Quick, Free Value

JAN 10, 2013 12:26pm ET

I have a real love-hate relationship with social media. I find much of it shallow at best, with a snippet of interesting content but no link to the rest (ONC are you listening?), and self-absorbing drivel at worst (do you really need to know I’m walking to the store to get hot chocolate on a cold night?).

But as I look through the entries on Health Data Management’s Twitter and Facebook pages, and admittedly those of some competitors, I think, “Wow, there’s real value here.”

Just look at what was available January 9 on HDM’s Twitter and Facebook sites: Three stories on health provisions in the Fiscal Cliff law and an offer to email you the law, new HIPAA violation fines, a study on PQRS reporting, three analytics stories, health spending trend reports, two stories on new innovations, a major vendor alliance, an invitation to contribute to upcoming feature stories, and a chance to win a really cool Vespa scooter at HIMSS.

One site, one screen, one time a day, gives you a quick snapshot of the news and easy links to the stories that interest you. That’s what trade press social media sites can offer. In five minutes you can know what you need to know, and what others don’t know. So please check us and the others out and find what works for you. And feel free to comment on what you need that we’re not offering.
